Leading the way in the resurgence of classic cocktails, the Negroni is almost as old as mixed drinks themselves. The love child of the 'Americano (Campari, sweet vermouth and soda water) and a healthy dose of male bravado.
Named after Count Negroni (seriously) The Negroni came to be when one man had the audacity to replace soda water with gin, just for the extra punch.
We mix our Negroni's with equal parts Bombay Sapphire, Aperol and Martini Rosso, with a dash of orange bitters.
What does it taste like? A bitter sweet combination of Italian aperitif and Martini Rosso, followed up by a hefty punch of male bravado, or gin to most people. Its a serious drink, potent, complex and possibly one of our favourite libations.
Will you like it? Its heavy on the spirit, so if you (or your guests) like something a little sweeter and easy drinking you may not want to make this your primary offering. However it is an exceptional classic and shouldn't be overlooked. FYI, we wrote this with Negroni in hand, and we will not apologise for doing so at 1:30pm.
